The article studies the inter-parliamentary relations among the Republic of
Azerbaijan and Western European countries during 1995-2015. Azerbaijani
parliamentarianism may be divided into three stages: 1918-1920 APR, 1920-
1991 Supreme Soviet and 1991 independence.
The development of cooperation with the legislative branch of Western
European governments is one of the main directions in the foreign policy of
Azerbaijan after the independence of 1991 The structure, history, tradition
and experience of Western European parliaments make the cooperation in
this sphere even more essential.The conducted research indicates that the relations between the legislative branch of Azerbaijan and Western European states have developed in last 20 years, but the experience of these parliaments has not been adopted widely.
The mutual visits by parliamentarians, exchange programs for the youths in
the legislative branches, the role of inter-parliamentary relations in the
solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict are rather important in the
integration of Azerbaijan’s legislative branch into the world system.
